Early Christmas presents every medical writer needs 🎁

Hi Reader

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to fill in my recent survey about future YouTube videos and other support I could offer. You have all given me so much to think about, and I'm planning some new and exciting things for next year in response!

I'm always happy to hear ideas though, so if there's something that has occurred to you, please feel free to drop me an email. You don't need to wait until the next survey.

But this year isn't over yet, and there are still plenty of exciting things still to come in December...

If you've followed me for a while, you will probably have heard me mention BrightCarbon and their fantastic resources for visuals, particularly in PowerPoint. They run regular free webinars, and I really recommend attending their graphs and charts masterclass on Thursday 14th December at 4pm UK time.

BrightCarbon masterclasses are always full of quick and easy tips you can use in your PowerPoint decks, and this masterclass will help you create data visualisations that will engage your audience and deliver the information with impact. After the session, you'll be sent some resources to help you implement their suggestions too. The perfect early Christmas present for any medical writer!

And in the run-up to Christmas, I'm involved in a couple of events, and it would be lovely to see some familiar faces there.

On Thursday 14th December at 1pm UK time, I'll be joining Peter Llewellyn at the MedComms Workbook Online Huddle. This session is open to all, not just Workbook subscribers, and we'll be talking about training and learning support plans to develop the Workbook service in 2024. Come along and join the conversation! (Disclaimer: festive jumpers and/or hats are apparently obligatory πŸŽ„)

As freelance medical writers, it can be so hard to find time to work on our business amidst the hustle and bustle of client projects and deadlines. On Friday 15th December at 4pm UK time, I'll be joining Lisa Baker for a Freelancers in Pubs Zoom to take a breather from the daily grind. We'll reflect on our successes in 2023, but also acknowledge where things have been tough. From this starting point, we'll work together to develop realistic goals for an even better 2024! As always, the Zoom is free, and registration is required.

I hope to see you at one of these events, but do let me know if you have any questions or other suggestions – I'm always happy to hear from you!

All the best

Eleanor

Hi Reader #MedComms day is nearly here! On Wednesday 12th June, we will celebrate all the quirks and wonder of working in MedComms. You can find the full list of events on medcommsday.com – including things happening online and in-person – but I wanted to tell you about the two I'll be hosting. At 10:30 BST, I'll be taking a break with coffee and cake for the Great MedComms Workbook Bake Off. If you're a freelancer, why don't you join me? It shouldn't just be the agencies that have all the...

Hi Reader I am thrilled to announce that I am taking over the management of the MedComms Workbook service for freelancers in MedComms from its founder, Peter Llewellyn. We’re working together closely during the transition, and both hope it will go from strength to strength. As part of this transition, we’ve launched a community on the Heartbeat platform for the Workbook subscribers. This online space is dedicated to fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and supporting freelancers. You can...

Hi Reader Had you heard of MedComms when you were 15? I certainly hadn't! I've had a request from a school in London asking for a work experience opportunity in the spring/summer for a Year 10 student who is keen to become a medical writer. If you work for an agency based in London that might be able to help, please let me know! If you're actually hoping to start your own MedComms career but are a little beyond Year 10 work experience, you might find the First MedComms Job event at the...
